About
My parents had a software company and put me in front of a keyboard before I could drive — BASIC, CBASIC, and Assembler were my first languages. A few decades later, I'm still building things: cloud platforms, enterprise systems, SaaS products, and the occasional documentary film.
Somewhere along the way I walked onto an improv stage and discovered that making things up with other people is just as rewarding as making things that compile. Today I split my time between writing code, performing with Chaotic Good Improv, producing a documentary about Icelandic punk rock, and helping aspiring entrepreneurs get their ideas off the ground. The common thread? I love helping people build things — whether it's software, a scene, or a startup.
Work
I've been building software since the '90s — contracted development for firms and government agencies, a long run at Intermark Interactive, then striking out on my own. I founded 45000 Feet in 2013 as one of Alabama's first AWS Consulting Partners, and followed that with Two Ravens, an innovation consulting firm in the heart of Birmingham.
These days I serve as CTO at UnicusID and run piercingwit productions, a holding company for my technology, film, and consulting work. I care about code that humans can read, systems that actually solve problems, and teams that feel empowered to do their best work.
Cloud & AWS
Founded 45000 Feet, one of Alabama's first AWS Consulting Partners. AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Professional) and Security Specialist.
Software Architecture
CTO at UnicusID, where I architected The Shepherd System — a Mobile Biometrics as a Service platform built on real-time location, tracking, and biometric verification.
Consulting & Strategy
From legacy system modernization to cloud migration to digital strategy for large enterprises, I help organizations figure out what to build and how to build it.
Improv
Improv taught me that the best things happen when you stop planning and start listening. On stage, there's no script, no safety net — just trust, presence, and the willingness to look foolish in pursuit of something real.
I'm a founding actor of Chaotic Good Improv, a Birmingham-based comedy troupe. We started performing on Twitch during the pandemic and now do multiple live shows every month. We prove every night that the best comedy comes from genuine connection and a willingness to say "yes, and" to whatever walks through the door.
Coaching & Facilitation
Improv Coaching & Facilitation
Whether you're an individual looking to sharpen your improv chops, a team that wants to communicate better, or a company looking for a workshop that's actually fun — I bring the stage to you. Improv isn't just comedy; it's a practice for listening, adapting, and building together.
Let's TalkCo.Starters Facilitation
I've been a Co.Starters facilitator since 2015, working with hundreds of small business owners in dozens of communities across the US. I help aspiring entrepreneurs assess viability, find customers, and get unstuck — and I stick around as a mentor long after graduation.
